Summerville auto shop operator charged with false tax documents, assault

SUMMERVILLE S.C (WCIV) — A Berkley County man was arrested Monday after state revenue agents revealed he continued operating an auto repair business after its retail license was revoked, and later provided false information and assaulted an employee.

John Travis Peterson, 38, of Summerville, faces four counts of furnishing a false tax document and one count each of operating without a retail license, making a threat, and simple assault, according to the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

Peterson operated Cane Bay Tire and Auto LLC, whose retail license was revoked in June 2025, according to the agency. Despite the revocation, arrest warrants allege Peterson continued to make retail sales at the business…
