Alabama’s “welcome mat to the world” is on its way to making its return to the travel center at the Tennessee state line.
State Rep. Andy Whitt said the final steps are being taken to bring a replica of the Saturn 1B to the Alabama Welcome Center on Interstate 65 in Ardmore, replacing the one that stood at the rest stop for more than 40 years.
“The U.S. Space & Rocket Center has presented the MOU to the State of Alabama, and we’re just waiting on that final approval,” Whitt told AL.com. “Once it’s in hand, the real excitement begins. This rocket is more than history — it’s Alabama’s welcome mat to the world, showing who we are and what we’ve always been capable of. The USSRC has the know-how, the ability, and the heart to help restore this iconic symbol and protect our state’s proud space heritage.”…
