Three prisoners deny Christmas Day stabbing at Mobile County Metro Jail

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Three prisoners at Mobile County Metro Jail pleaded not guilty Wednesday to assaulting a fellow inmate on Christmas Day with homemade knives known as “shanks.”

According to court records, the attack caused serious injuries to an inmate named Kilpatrick Taylor, who had been locked up on a variety of charges.

All three of the inmates already were locked up on murder charges:

  • Jeffery Blackston is waiting to be sentenced after a jury found him guilty in December of capital murder in a vicious beating of Troy Barnhill in 2021.
  • Gadrick Overstreet Jr. has pending charges of felony murder, attempted murder and first-degree robbery, stemming from an argument at a high school graduation party in Mount Vernon.
  • Antwan Williams has a pending murder charge related to a shooting in 2020 near Cottage Hill Drive and Louise Drive.

It was not clear Wednesday how badly injured Taylor was in the attack or how the inmates constructed the weapons. The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office said investigators are trying to determine a motive…
