Piece of family history found in Nevada gets returned to rightful owner in Williamsburg

WILLAIMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — A journey of reuniting a piece of family history with its rightful owners here in Hampton Roads began all the way in a small town outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cheryl Buitrago was at a flea market with her then husband in Pahrump, Nevada. There, they found a Navy belt buckle and bought it for just 75 cents. On that buckle there was a name engraved, Captain Roy P. Gee.

Buitrago said that, instead of holding onto it or possibly selling it for more money, she immediately wanted to find the owner, or family of the owner, to return it.  She said her connection to members of her family who served our country was a big reason behind it…
