CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A strong cold front is moving through the area this morning bringing a chilly air mass to wrap up the work week. Clouds will clear out of the area quickly Thursday morning leading to a sunny and breezy day ahead. Temperatures will fall into the low 40s by late this morning and only slowly climb back into the mid to upper 40s this afternoon. Very cold temperatures are expected tonight when temps fall into the upper teens and low 20s inland, upper 20s to near 30° along the coast.
A developing storm system will likely approach the area on Sunday, bringing and increase in moisture and the potential for precipitation. At this time, the most likely outcome in that the precipitation falls in the form of rain. However, if colder air is able to move into the area, a brief changeover to snowflakes could happen. Ground temperatures are expected to remain too warm to support any accumulation. As with any possible winter weather storm system in the Southeast, details may chance as the forecast becomes clearer.
