SOUTH MISSISSIPPI, Miss. (WLOX) – America250 Mississippi and the Mississippi Humanities Council awarded $20,000 in Legacy Grants to five local organizations across the Gulf Coast to preserve Mississippi’s role in the American story.
The Jackson-George Regional Library System will use its grant funding to digitize decades of local history. Laura Thompson with the library system said they are digitizing photos, documents and oral history tapes from the 1970s and 1980s.
“A lot of the time, it’s not readily accessible to our patrons because either it’s falling apart, it’s super old, and we want to be able to have our collections accessible to anybody that wants to look at them,” Thompson said.
Digital archives to expand access
