Verizon Promises Credits After Widespread Outage

Verizon Wireless is offering account credits to customers following a widespread outage that disrupted mobile communications for many users. The company acknowledged the issues, stating that workers are actively addressing the causes of the service interruption.

“Today, we let many of our customers down, and for that, we are sorry,” Verizon News posted on X. The company further emphasized that their wireless customers “expect more from us” and that staff are “working non-stop and making progress” toward fully restoring all wireless services.

The outage, which began Wednesday afternoon, prompted an immediate response from the tech firm. Verizon officials confirmed Wednesday night that they were working to fully restore all services. “Our teams will continue to work through the night until service is restored for all impacted customers,” they stated, adding, “We will make this right — for any customer affected, we will provide account credits and share updates soon.”

During the outage, many mobile phones entered “SOS mode,” allowing for emergency calls via alternative networks but preventing access to Verizon’s intended wireless network. While Verizon acknowledged the problem soon after it was reported, the cause has not yet been identified.

The issue appeared to be isolated to Verizon, with competitors like AT&T and T-Mobile seemingly unaffected. New York City’s emergency management team reported cooperating with local partners to assess the problem’s extent and its impact on essential services and city agencies.
