World Cup Tickets So Popular, Millions Miss Out

Coral Gables, FL – The global excitement for this year’s World Cup is palpable, with FIFA announcing Wednesday that it has already received over 500 million ticket requests.

While the United States, Mexico, and Canada are set to host, fans from around the world are eager to be part of the action. Outside of the host nations, the highest volume of requests has come from Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Colombia.

Ticket prices can reach up to $8,680, though FIFA, responding to earlier criticism, confirmed last month that it will offer $60 tickets for every game to the 48 national federations participating in the tournament. These federations will then be responsible for distributing them to their loyal fans who have attended previous matches.

During the third sales phase, which concluded on Tuesday after running from December 11, the most sought-after match was Colombia vs. Portugal on June 27 in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Close behind were Mexico vs. South Korea on June 18 in Guadalajara, Mexico; the highly anticipated final on July 19 in East Rutherford, New Jersey; the opening match between Mexico and South Africa on June 11 in Mexico City; and a second-round match on July 2 in Toronto.

FIFA will begin notifying applicants about their ticket status no earlier than February 5. For matches where demand outstrips availability, tickets will be allocated through a random selection process.
