POCAHONTAS, Iowa — The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office reports a former employee of a local business has been charged following an investigation into alleged payroll theft reported on December 24, 2025. Authorities say the suspected theft may have occurred over a period of more than one year before being discovered.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation was conducted after a local business reported that one of its employees had been fraudulently stealing money through payroll practices. Following the investigation, Cassandra Weaver, 35, of Cleveland, Tennessee, formerly of Pocahontas, was criminally charged.
Weaver faces the following charges:
- Ongoing Criminal Conduct — Class B Felony
- First-Degree Fraudulent Practices — Class C Felony
- First-Degree Theft — Class C Felony
- Second-Degree Theft — Class D Felony
The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with Tennessee authorities to locate and arrest Weaver. Officials say she was taken into custody in Tennessee on January 12, 2026, and is currently awaiting extradition back to Iowa…
