‘I was afraid I was going to get shot’: ICE pursuit into RI courthouse causes chaos.

PROVIDENCE – Several U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers “barreled” through the Garrahy Judicial Complex on Thursday, Jan. 15, in pursuit of two young men, breaching court security on their way, according to witnesses.

“They were screaming stop, stop, stop,” said lawyer Stephen Dennis, who on Jan. 15 was making his way to Workers’ Compensation Court around 11 a.m. “They ran right through and they didn’t check their weapons.”

Several agents, who were masked and armed, according to Maya Lehrer, a volunteer with the Deportation Defense Network and organizer with the Rhode Island branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, ran through the first floor of the Dorrance Street courthouse.
