Asylum seeker gets 2 years in prison for fatal South Toledo crash

A driver whose speeding SUV ran a red light in South Toledo and killed a woman in a crash nearly eight months ago has been sent to prison.

In denying a defense request Thursday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court that he get probation, Judge Lori Olender cited a later speeding ticket Desmond Dohbit, 33, received on I-475 in West Toledo as evidence that the May 29 crash that killed Laurie Greene, 22, had not changed his driving habits.

That later ticket, for which Dohbit was clocked at 89 mph in a 60-mph zone near Secor Road, and a previous speeding ticket Dohbit got in 2024 in Maumee showed a “pattern of conduct” demonstrating disregard for reckless driving’s potentially lethal consequences, Judge Olender said…
