Court docs allege former mayor had ties to known drug dealers, money launderers

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Reports filed in U.S. District Court this week are revealing new allegations a confidential human informant made against former Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, including claims of his relationships with drug dealers, as well as thousands in campaign finances that were never reported.

Lumumba, former Ward Six Councilman Aaron Banks, and Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens are all charged in connection with a bribery scheme to bring a convention center hotel to downtown Jackson.

On Monday, Owens filed a motion to dismiss the case against him, citing entrapment. To back up his point, he included dozens of additional filings outlining the FBI’s years-long investigation into city officials…
