GREEN BAY (WLUK) – With an autopsy report still not completed for the death of Leo Escalante, 2, the criminal cases remain on hold.
James VanderLeest, 22, is charged with reckless homicide for the June 22 death of Escalante on the city’s east side. He returns to court Jan. 26 for status conference. No trial date has been set.
His father, David VanderLeest, 48, is charged with aiding a felon and obstruction for allegedly lying to police, claiming he was the one at home at the time of the child’s death.
During David VanderLeest’s court appearance Thursday, his attorney, John D’Angelo, told the court that a neurology report still isn’t completed, with no specific completion date anticipated. A Feb. 24 status hearing was set to check on its status then. No trial date has been set…
