San Antonio Zoo, Texas family settle negligence lawsuit over injuries from fallen tree limb

The San Antonio Zoo has quietly settled a negligence lawsuit by a Texas family who alleged they were injured when a rotted tree limb fell on them during a visit to the venue during spring break in 2023.

The San Antonio Zoological Society and Crystal and Librado Rodriguez of Temple in Bell County reached a confidential settlement in 2024, but they returned to court late last year on a joint motion to seal the agreement and prevent it from being viewed by other parties.

State District Judge Cynthia Marie Chapa granted the motion after finding that the litigating parties’ “interests clearly outweigh the presumption of openness.” No one appeared at the Nov. 19 hearing to oppose the motion, the judge noted…
