Duane Meyer trial: Autopsy suggests strangulation in Byron mother’s death, not fire

OREGON, Ill. (WTVO) — Forensic experts in the Duane Meyer murder case claimed evidence suggests fire was not the cause of the deaths of Margaret (Maggie) Meyer and her son, Amos.

Meyer is accused of killing his ex-wife and her son, who were found dead in a Byron house fire on October 18, 2016.

On day three of the double murder trial in Ogle County Court on Thursday, forensic pathologists Dr. Mark Peters, the autopsy physician, and Dr. Hillary McElligott gave an opinion that Maggie had been strangled to death…
