Xcel announces power shutoff for Jan. 16

Xcel Energy announced it will shut off power Jan. 16 to about 9,000 customers in Larimer, including Fort Collins, and Weld counties because of expected high winds and wildfire risk.

The utility company confirmed its planned public safety power shutoff in a notice posted on its website at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 15 and on its social media accounts.

The shutoff will begin at 8 a.m. and is expected to last through the day. Wind conditions are expected to begin improving about 4 p.m., but restoring power “may take several hours to several days,” the notice on the website said…
