Washoe Valley hit-and-run driver sentenced to up to 26 years for deadly crash

The man responsible for deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in Washoe Valley last year has been sentenced to up to 26 years in prison, according to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.

Travis Smith, 43, was sentenced Thursday after previously pleading guilty to duty to stop at the scene of an accident causing substantial bodily harm or death, a felony under Nevada law. Prosecutors confirmed Smith will be eligible for parole after serving 96 months, or eight years, of his sentence.

The case stems from a hit-and-run crash on Eastlake Boulevard between Guffey Drive and Side View Way. Deputies with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a vehicle striking a bicyclist.
