No surprise: Home of the Texas Sized Donut ranked best donut shop in state

During the first week of 2026, the Washington Post surveyed 1,021 people about their New Year’s resolutions. Fourteen percent said they planned to lose weight. For a brief moment, my local Austin gym appeared to believe them.

By mid-January, however, treadmills were vacant and elliptical machines were lonely again. Which makes this a fine time to celebrate Texas’ most famous donut. On Jan. 13, Tasting Table released a list of the best donut shops in every state, and Texas’ selection came as no surprise: Round Rock Donuts.

In 2024, Round Rock Donuts landed on Yelp’s list of the Top 10 Most Outrageous Oversized Eats for its 13-inch Texas Sized Donut. Glazed, frosted, powdered or stuffed, here’s why Round Rock Donuts earned its well-deserved ranking as the Lone Star State’s go-to destination for fried dough.
