EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) celebrated the grand opening of its new $110 million Texas Western Hall on Thursday, Jan. 15.
UTEP celebrates ‘topping out’ ceremony for new learning complex
The 124,725-square-foot building will house 30 classrooms that hold over 1,700 students, a large 150-seat auditorium with audiovisual technology, 20 collaboration rooms and a 3,000-square-foot rooftop terrace that can seat 200 with views of Centennial Plaza.
Additionally, the building features a 2,300-square-foot lobby with a floor radiant heating system through tubing in the concrete floor, which provides consistent temperatures and improved energy efficiency, according to the news release by the university.
“Texas Western Hall replaces a 1960s-era building with state-of-the-art learning spaces,” UTEP President Heather Wilson said. “It is both beautiful — inside and out — and functional.”
Funding for Texas Western Hall was secured with $57.1 million in permanent university funds approved by the University of Texas System Board of Regents in 2023 and 2024, and $52.4 million from the Texas Legislature in 2021…
