Man sentenced for fentanyl, cocaine related death of 2-year-old

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A man was sentenced on Thursday, Jan. 15, for the fentanyl and cocaine related death of his 2-year-old niece.

According to the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, 33-year-old Christopher Mikhail Baker of Slidell was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

On Jan. 7, 2024, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call regarding an unresponsive child at a residence in Slidell. Baker had been babysitting his niece, 2-year-old Ryah Young and his 1-year-old nephew since Jan. 5.

Baker claimed he discovered the child unresponsive shortly before 2:00 p.m., yet emergency services were not alerted until 2:19 p.m. Ryah was pronounced dead at a hospital. A toxicology report later confirmed the cause of death as drug toxicity after testing positive for fentanyl and cocaine…
