Man proposes underwater during shark dive at Wonders of Wildlife

For most people, jumping in an aquarium full of sharks sounds neither enticing nor romantic, but for one couple from Michigan it was the perfect backdrop to signify the next step in their relationship — an engagement.

David Balasa had planned a nearly week-long road trip across the Midwest with his girlfriend of two years, Haley Wiewiora, as a Christmas gift. Planning, taken on by Balasa with the help of some friends, took months to nail down. They traveled through Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois and more stopping at various attractions to check off bucket list items. Stops along the way included Buc-ee’s; lunch at Ford’s Garage; a visit to the Superman Museum in Metropolis, Illinois; and another aquarium, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, where the couple enjoyed a hotel room stay below the sharks.

“I had no idea where we were going,” Wiewiora said. “When it comes to trips, I am the planner, I am the packer. He gets to be the little vacation princess, and he doesn’t really have to worry about it. But, I mean, he had every minute planned of our trip.”…
