Massive cargo plane visits Wichita to pick up Boeing parts

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – One of the world’s largest cargo planes landed at the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport Thursday morning to pick up large parts for a Boeing aircraft.

The Antonov AN-124 Ruslan took off from Tulsa and landed in Wichita around 6 a.m. The plane is the world’s second-heaviest cargo aircraft and was designed in the 1980s in the Ukrainian Soviet Union. The aircraft that landed at Eisenhower had the Ukrainian flag painted on its side.

Because the plane is so large, the airport had to close part of the taxiway to let them park on the ramp. Eisenhower also inspected the runway and taxi path to ensure no signs or lights were damaged during the jet blast…
