Postal worker gets probation for stealing thousands through money orders

Albany, NY (WRGB) — A Rensselaer County man has been sentenced to probation after admitting he stole tens of thousands of dollars through a money order fraud scheme while employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III, 26-year-old Matthew Dundas of Petersburgh, was sentenced on January 14, 2026, to two years of probation, 80 hours of community service, and a $4,000 fine.

As part of his prior guilty plea, Dundas admitted that between January 2023 and September 2024, while working for the United States Postal Service, he fraudulently issued 105 money orders to himself without paying for them, stealing $76,976.61 from the United States.
