New York winter weather warning for 7 counties as 7 inches of ‘lake effect snow’ to fall

At 12:52 p.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch valid from Sunday 7 p.m. until Wednesday 4 p.m. The watch is for Niagara, Orleans, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties.

As a large snowstorm approaches the area, the National Weather Service in Buffalo has elevated many winter weather advisories to winter storm warnings.

For much of Western and Central New York, heavy snowfall is predicted through Thursday night or Friday morning, depending on the location. It is anticipated that travel would be challenging, particularly on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
