Johns Island traffic stop turns into drug bust, deputies say

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Deputies say they arrested a person on Johns Island after a simple traffic stop turned into a major drug bust on Jan. 11.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook that deputies noticed a car run a red light and conducted a traffic stop. When the deputies pulled the vehicle over, they smelled marijuana, prompting them to search the car.

According to the post, the agency recovered:

  • Approx. 524 grams of marijuana
  • Approx. 213 grams of cocaine
  • Approx. 45 grams of cocaine base (crack)
  • 223 grams of methamphetamine
  • Multiple pills, including Oxycodone, Ecstasy, and Dextroamphetamine
  • A Glock 19 pistol
  • More than $2,500 in cash

The driver was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center…
