Polar Plunges in Middle Tennessee benefit Special Olympics

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Now that we’re into the new year, several communities in Middle Tennessee are plunging feet first into chilly waters to raise money for a great cause.

Teams can pledge to be “freezin’ for a reason” in Middle Tennessee as they raise money for Special Olympics Tennessee during the annual Polar Plunge. The plunge is a chilly fundraising event where participants brave cold water by jumping, running or even tiptoeing into the water while raising money to support the athletes and programs offered by Special Olympics Tennessee.

Don’t worry if you’re too chicken to brave the chilly waters. Some Polar Plunges have an option for those who want to support the mission but don’t want to brave the cold water. Those locations have a “Too Chicken Pool” people can dunk a finger or toe into instead. Those participants must still pledge to raise at least $75, though, keeping them in line with other participants.

There are multiple events in Tennessee in January and February, including one right outside Nissan Stadium.

Nashville

The Music City Polar Plunge into the Asurion Pool at Nissan Stadium will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28. All plungers are to raise at least $75, which will net them the official Plunge medal, two beers from the beer garden and all the bragging rights associated with the brave endeavor, according to Special Olympics Tennessee…
