VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Whale watching is popular in the winter months here in Hampton Roads, but one crew out to have fun saw something more disturbing this week when they spotted one that had been injured.
Normally, what you hope for on a whale tour is great sightings of the big mammals, maybe even having some come up close to the boat.
“It’s very exciting,” said Rudee Flipper crew member and naturalist Kristin Rayfield. “They’re large animals, so they can reach about 55 feet in length for the humpback whales. [They’re] kind of a once-in-a-lifetime experiences for a lot of people.”…
