Lawsuit filed alleging wrongful death of local elderly woman

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team has found a family now seeking more justice after investigators say an elderly woman walked out of a local nursing home and died hours later.

A lawsuit was filed in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court by the estate of Alvera Meuti. The suit states that Meuti, 84, was a patient at the Avenue Warrensville Care and Rehabilitation Center in December 2024. Meuti went missing and was found Dec. 24, several hours later , outside the facility unresponsive. She died a short time later. The lawsuit states Meuit froze to death. A nurse and the owners of the facility are named as defendants.

The lawsuit argues the patient’s death was the result of a “failure to ensure” the facility was “properly staffed” and noting the woman left the facility through an “unlocked door” and then was unable to get back inside. Warrensville Heights police body camera video shows officers at the facility talking to Amber Henderson, who was working there at the time as a nurse. Henderson has been indicted on criminal charges, including a felony count of involuntary manslaughter.

According to Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court records, Henderson has entered not guilty pleas to the criminal charges. She is due back in court Jan. 27.
