A teen boy indicted as a youthful offender last month on charges in connection with a crash in Marblehead that killed a 13-year-old girl last August had his bail set at $20,000 during his arraignment Friday.
Oscar Galante, who was 16 when he was indicted in December, appeared in Lynn Juvenile Court Friday to be arraigned on a single charge of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation. Because Galante was indicted as a youthful offender, the hearing was open to the public. Juvenile Court cases are otherwise conducted in secret.
The exact circumstances of the crash on Aug. 19 that killed Savannah Gatchell are unclear — neither prosecutors nor Galante’s defense lawyer discussed the facts of the case during Friday’s hearing.
