Yesterday, near Lake Merritt, a 78-year-old woman ended up in the hospital with head injuries after a purse snatching in Oakland’s Cleveland Heights neighborhood, according to police.
Officers say the thief yanked her purse during a struggle, dragging her to the pavement before taking off from the scene. By the time police arrived, the suspect was gone, and the woman was on her way to a hospital.
As reported by The Mercury News, the robbery happened around 2:15 PM at the intersection of Newton and Lester avenues. Police say the suspect grabbed the victim’s purse, which held some cash and an iPhone, during the scuffle. She suffered head injuries in the fall and was taken for treatment. Investigators believe the robber may have run toward a waiting vehicle but have not released a detailed description of the suspect so far.
