‘She’s part of Mama J’s family:’ Jackson Ward restaurant caters food for Spanberger’s inauguration

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Mama J’s restaurant in Jackson Ward is preparing to cater Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger’s inauguration breakfast on Saturday.

“Cooking doesn’t make me stressful, cooking makes me happy,” said Velma Johnson, lovingly known as Mama J and the owner of the restaurant.

The restaurant was selected to provide food for the inauguration ceremony, where Spanberger will be sworn in as Virginia’s first female governor.

“All of my customers are important, but this is a big one. It makes us feel good, out of all the restaurants in the city of Richmond, she chose us to do her breakfast,” Mama J said…
