Buyer shows interest in Pa. mall that’s nearly been leveled

As the final above-ground pieces of West Mifflin’s Century III Mall start to come down, officials say a potential buyer is close to finalizing a deal to buy the property that was once home to one of the largest malls in the world.

All that remains standing of the previously 1.3 million-square-foot space is the portion that once housed Sears, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. said in an update Wednesday on the demolition of the site and the criminal case against an LLC that owns it.

Zappala took up the cause when West Mifflin officials came to him for help in 2024 as they worked to find some sort of solution for the mall, which by that point had fallen into disrepair and become a public safety hazard.
