On a Saturday afternoon in late September, shortly before his hospitalization, Madison Police Officer Ryan Kimberley was driving south on Terminal Drive to assist the Monona Police Department in a vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit started after Monona Police Officer Jared Wedig and Sgt. Ken Ginther responded to a report of a red tow truck nearly hitting multiple vehicles on Stoughton Road, court records show. Wedig found the tow truck parked at an East Broadway gas station, but as he approached, the driver fled.
The Monona officers chased the tow truck through parking lots, over sidewalks and medians, and through red lights in the 1000 block of East Broadway, reaching speeds of 60 mph. A sedan loaded on the tow truck’s bed fell off into the roadway…
