Cook County Board Approves Funding for Transportation Upgrades in Bellwood, Hillside, and Maywood

It’s a green light for transportation improvements across Cook County, as the Cook County Board of Commissioners gives the thumbs up on funding for a slew of projects designed to spruce up travel for residents. Cook County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) released plans to roll out a series of rail-to-road upgrades intended to patch up and polish the infrastructure, from fresh pavement to brighter streetlights.

In the village of Bellwood, a tidy sum of $410,000 is pegged for Congress Street and Van Buren Street’s facelift. Here, the revamp includes dolling up the roadway pavement, curbs, and sidewalks, while tacking on off-street parking to the mix. These improvements are touted to not only refresh the look but also reinforce the safety and efficiency of these thoroughfares.

Moving a bit over to Hillside, this suburban spot gets a more design-focused treatment with $203,904 aimed at the Taft Avenue corridor. In the works are plans for spiffy on-street bike lanes, ADA-compliant crosswalks, and sidewalks.
