ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police Department Interim Chief Cecily Barker said she will be applying to become the department’s next chief. Barker joined the department in 2004, where she has served as a sergeant, lieutenant, and was promoted to deputy chief in 2020. Mayor Tim Keller appointed Barker as interim chief after Harold Medina retired from the position last month.

She said she wants to fight crime by analyzing trends. “I led our Duke City staff for the last several years, and that meeting is really about talking about what trends are within the city and what we’re doing to address them and then holding supervisors and commanders accountable for the work that they do,” said Barker.
