COLUMBUS — The Franklin County Auditor’s Office has released its list of the most popular and unusual dog names in the county for 2025. The list was created using dog license application data collected by the government office. Bella was the most common name, with 878 dogs registered under that name.
The rest of the top 10 included Luna with 741 dogs, Lucy with 627, Daisy with 616, Charlie with 566 and Max with 507. Other favorites were Cooper (460), Buddy (436), Sadie (425) and Bailey (415).
Ohio State University–inspired names also stood out among local dogs. The data showed that 166 dogs were named “Brutus,” after the school’s mascot, and 118 were named “Scarlet.” Another 110 dogs were named “Buckeye,” and 18 were named “Sloopy,” a nod to the school’s unofficial rock song…
