An accident on the 10 Freeway in Ontario early Thursday resulted in one fatality after a semi-truck collided with a bridge, causing a steel beam to fall onto the freeway.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:19 a.m. when a big rig carrying heavy machinery struck the steel girders of the 15 Freeway Express Lanes and Freight Corridor project, dislodging a beam that fell onto the freeway below, according to the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA).
The crash prompted an immediate closure of the eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway near the 15 Freeway interchange. Ontario police diverted traffic off the freeway at Milliken Avenue, directing drivers to use surface streets to re-enter at Etiwanda Avenue.
