Buddhist monks to cross Greensboro on 2,300-mile Walk for Peace

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP/AP) — A group of Buddhist monks who have captivated Americans while on a multi-state Walk for Peace will reportedly arrive in Greensboro on Monday, Jan. 19.

In their flowing saffron and ocher robes, the men embarked on the 120-day, 2,300-mile journey to “raise awareness of peace, loving kindness, and compassion across America and the world.”

Their journey began Oct. 26, 2025, at a Vietnamese Buddhist temple in Texas, and is scheduled to end in mid-February in Washington, D.C., where they will ask Congress to recognize Buddha’s day of birth and enlightenment as a federal holiday. Beyond promoting peace, their highest priority is connecting with people along the way.
