Lake-effect snow, icy conditions leads to over 100 traffic incidents in West Michigan on Friday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — West Michigan is seeing lake-effect snow on Friday and is expecting more over the weekend. With the snowfall, we’ve seen dangerous and icy road conditions. Local jurisdictions have reported an increase in calls regarding crashes and slide-offs.

Here’s what Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon counties reported as of about 5 p.m. Friday:

  • The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said they’ve had 61 calls for property damage accidents, 14 of unknown injury, 10 crashes with injury and 36 calls for motorist assist.
  • The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office said they’ve had a total of 52 calls related to traffic incidents, including motorist assists, crashes, hit and runs and more.
