SMYRNA, Tenn. (WSMV) – Smyrna’s Town Council passed a new ordinance Tuesday night limiting residents to four yard sales per household each year, a measure that is drawing criticism from some community members.
The ordinance restricts yard sales to no more than three consecutive days or two consecutive weekends. Town Planner Kevin Rigsby said the measure targets residents who operate frequent yard sales like businesses.
“We’re not looking to require permits for yard sales or anything of that nature,” Rigsby said during Tuesday’s meeting. “It’s really just to limit the few folks we have in town who have a yard sale every weekend for multiple days and they’re really not a yard sale, they’re a business.”…
