Montgomery receives clearance to demolish long-abandoned hotels

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The City of Montgomery is moving forward with its plan to clear blight in the area after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) granted the city clearance to demolish two long-abandoned hotels.

The Candlelight Hotel at 1110 West South Boulevard and the Days Inn at 4243 Inn South Avenue have both been approved for demolition.

“This is about more than tearing down buildings—it’s about removing barriers to progress,” said Montgomery’s Chief Building Official and Director of Inspections Marcus Dean. “By eliminating blight, we create space for opportunity and growth, ensuring Montgomery continues to move forward with momentum.”
