Avondale woman charged with stabbing boyfriend to death after her birthday party

A Jefferson Parish grand jury handed up an indictment charging an Avondale with the murder of her boyfriend at the Kenner Airbnb they had booked for her birthday.

Akailah Hicks, 19, pleaded not guilty Friday to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice in the death of 21-year-old Keenan Dyas, Jefferson Parish court records said.

Kenner police allege Hicks stabbed Dyas once in the chest in the backyard of a rented home in the 400 block of Holy Cross Place just before 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 29, 2025. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
