WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – High winds across Kansas today have created conditions that make the state a high-risk area for fires, prompting fire departments and state agencies to prepare for potential wildfire responses.
Task forces around the state are ready to help smaller communities fight fires as soon as they receive calls for assistance.
Fire season approaches with increased vigilance
Derby Fire Chief John Turner said fire departments are monitoring conditions closely as fire season begins.
“We’re just approaching the fire season now. We’re gonna kind of monitor the rain conditions but until things green up, we’re going to receive fire danger forecasts throughout the next two months,” Turner said…
