Millcreek unveils new dry tooling climbing wall, tallest in the U.S.

MILLCREEK, Utah (ABC4) — Millcreek Commons is getting ready to open its new dry tooling climbing wall, the tallest in the United States, to the public with climbing demos.

Dry tooling is used to simulate ice climbing, and so this wall will bring ice-climbing training to the entire community. It is used by competitive ice climbers to train and refine their technical skills.

Alex Rudow is a competitive ice climber, member of the U.S. Ice Climbing Team, and a Millcreek resident. She explained that one side of the wall allows for speed climbing, while the other side allows for dry tooling, which would be lead or top rope climbing.

“This facility is incredible for competitive athletes, it’s one of, I think, the best training facilities in the U.S., to my knowledge it’s the only speed ice climbing wall that has dual lanes where you can train racing against each other, which is one of the formats for world cups,” she said…
