Birmingham police arrest two suspects in Southside robberies

The Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team has arrested two men in connection with a series of robberies reported in the city’s Southside area. Police said 24-year-old Kequan Walker and 22-year-old James Austin, both of Birmingham, were taken into custody following an investigation into robberies that occurred Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026. The incidents were reported in the 1000 block of 32nd Street South and the 1200 block of 28th Street South. According to investigators, both Walker and Austin are charged with two counts of first-degree robbery. Walker is also facing an additional charge of second-degree assault. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed.

Both suspects are expected to be transported to the Jefferson County…..
