21-year-old from Clovis charged with ‘gross negligence’ after 2 killed in crash: CHP

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 21-year-old man from Clovis was arrested for gross vehicle manslaughter Friday afternoon after crashing head-on into a couple north of Fresno, CHP said.

While a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation ruled out impairment, CHP says “marijuana and the odor of marijuana were detected inside the vehicle.”

Officers say 21-year-old Lazaro Hernandez was driving a Dodge Durango on a suspended license, going approximately 70 mph east on Auberry Road, when he approached a curve and crossed over the lanes directly into the path of a Kia Soul.

The impact killed both occupants, a man and a woman who officers say were in their late 80s. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Hernandez was not injured…
