It’s official……The monks are coming to Greensboro Monday!

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter and members of the city council will welcome a group of Buddhist monks on Monday by presenting a proclamation during their stop at Grandover Resort.

The monks are on Day 83 of a 120-day “Walk for Peace” that began in Fort Worth, Texas, and will conclude in Washington, D.C. By the end of the journey, the group will have walked more than 2,300 miles. The monks say their mission is to promote peace, loving kindness and compassion across the United States and the world.

The group is scheduled to arrive in Greensboro and the Triad on Monday, Jan. 19. Events are planned throughout the day:

  • From 10 to 11 a.m., the monks will participate in a program at Truist Point Stadium, 301 N. Elm St. in High Point.
  • Between 1 and 2 p.m., they will depart Truist Point Stadium and begin an estimated four-hour walk to Grandover Resort, with arrival expected between 5 and 6 p.m.
  • From 6 to 9 p.m., the monks will prepare for and participate in public visitation and speaking at a designated outdoor area at Grandover Resort. The Greensboro Police Department will assist with safety and crowd control.

Organizers ask those planning to attend to observe several guidelines, noting that the Walk for Peace is considered a moving meditation. Visitors are encouraged to remain quiet, calm and respectful…
