Three drivers who racked up $46,504 in unpaid tolls were caught after trying to hide their license plates with nothing more than two leaves and an air‑freshener wrapper.
Port Authority police stopped the cars on the George Washington Bridge this week and quickly spotted the makeshift coverups, officials said. In one case, a driver even tried to blame his children for placing a leaf over part of his plate number.
