Charlene Smith, 41, of Fresh Meadows, was visiting with her child at the Barnes and Noble at 91 Old Country Road in Carle Place when she exited the store and “fled [the] scene with the victim in an unknown direction,” detectives said.
Following an extensive investigation, Nassau County Police Aviation Unit Helicopter 4 located Smith and the child in the parking lot of Roosevelt Field Mall, police said. Patrol units responded, and Smith was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.
