Harvard club to pay back $2.4 million to settle pandemic loan fraud lawsuit

The Harvard Club of Boston has agreed to pay $2.4 million to settle allegations that it improperly obtained a federal Paycheck Protection Program loan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The club, which is not affiliated with Harvard University, was accused of violating the False Claims Act by certifying that it was eligible for pandemic relief funds when it was not, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Massachusetts.

In May 2021, the Harvard Club applied for and was granted a PPP loan. Just more than a year later, the club sought and received loan forgiveness for the full amount of the loan, according to prosecutors…
